Listening Section 1



Listening Section
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken English. There are four parts to this section with special directions for each part.

PART I 
Question 1 to 3

Directions:
In this part of the test, you will hear some dialogues and questions spoken in English. The dialogues and questions will be spoken twice. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying.
After you listen to the dialogue and the question about it, read the five possible answers, and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard. Now listen to a sample question.

You will hear:

Man                 : Hello Berta, Nice to meet you.
Woman             : Nice to meet you too.
Man                 : How long have you studied here?
Woman             : I have studied here for five years, and you?
Man                 : three years
Narrator           : when did the man begin studying there?
You will read in you test book:
A. Five years
B. Three years
C. A long time
D. Five years ago.
E. Three years ago.
The best answer to this question is “three years ago”. Therefore you should choose answer (E)
1.    A. Jim is Jack’s friend
     B. Jack is the woman’s friend
     C. Jack and Jim have met before
     D. Jim meets the woman for the first time
     E. Jack meets the woman for the first time
2.    A. her new hat
B. her new model
C. her performance
D. the model of her hat
E. the color of her hat.
3.    A. he was sick

E. he was very upset with his motorcycle
4.    A. they are having dinner with John Dalton

PART II
Questions: 5 to 7

Directions:
In this part of the test, you will hear some incomplete dialogues spoken in English, followed by four responses, also spoken in English. The dialogues and the responses will be spoken twice. They will not be printed in your text book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying. You have to choose the best response to each question.

Now listen to a sample question.
You will hear:
Man               : How are you Fatimah?
Woman          :…..
Narrator: What is the best response to the man’s question?
                                                                                               
 You will also hear:                                                                                                                   
A.  He is always with me
B.   Pleased to meet you
C.   I hope you are fine
D.  How do you do?
E.   I’m fine Rudi

The best response to the question is “I’m fine, Rudy.” Therefore, you should choose answer E.

Directions:
In this part of the test, you will hear several monologues. Each monologue will be spoken twice. They will not be printed in your text book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers are saying.
After you hear the monologue and the question about it, read the five possible answers and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.
